Beulah Doris Burma was born on April 22, 1930 in Ackley to Dick and Bena Burma.  She grew up on a farm in rural Ackley and graduated from Ackley High School in 1948.  After high school she worked at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo and for dentist Dr. Wirtz in Ackley.

On May 2, 1956 she married Harold Dave Holmgaard at the Washington Reformed Church, rural Ackley.  Harold and Beulah made their home in Hampton where Harold was an electrician and Beulah helped with the books and was a homemaker.  To this union were born four children, Coralee, Beth, Amy, and Lyle.

After the kids started school, she worked at Linda’s Bakery in Hampton and then as a part-time cook at South Side Elementary School.  During her time at South Side she formed a strong friendship with many of the other cooks in the school system.  That friendship was very special to her.

Beulah was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Coulter where she was the choir director for over 25 years and also was a substitute organist.  Music and her Christian faith were very important parts of her life.  After the closing of Nazareth Lutheran Church she transferred her membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hampton.  She enjoyed quilting, not only at Nazareth, but also at St. Paul.  Beulah was an accomplished seamstress, and spent many hours making clothes, coats, purses, table runners, tree skirts, wall hangings, quilts….the list is endless.

Beulah’s family was very important to her as she attended as many of the kids, grandkids, great-grandkids school events as possible.  She also loved all of the holidays where she created many traditions that her family truly cherished and will miss greatly.

Beulah is survived by daughters Beth (Rick) Whalen and Amy Holmgaard; grandchildren, Erica (Nick) Nolte, Nathan (Kris) Erickson, Logan (Brittany) Lumley, Cassandra (Cody) Fox, Joseph (Jamie) Whalen, Elizabeth (Henrik) Rutgersson, Madelyn Holmgaard, Ian Holmgaard and Nash Holmgaard; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren;  1 niece and 2 nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Walter Burma, husband Harold, daughter Coralee, son Lyle, and grandson Lucas.
