Betty Jean Heginger, 90

Betty Jean Heginger (Greimann) of Sheffield passed away on February 1, 2024 in Story City.  

Betty was born on January 30, 1934 in Chapin, Iowa, the daughter of William and Eleanora Greimann.    Betty attended school in Chapin, Iowa, and later attended Hamilton Business School.  On December 1, 1956, she was united in marriage with Byron Heginger of Goodell.  Three children were born to this union – Brenda, Brice, and Burton.  The couple farmed west of Sheffield for several years and later moved into Sheffield.  Betty worked for Carl Foster, and Phil DeMoss and later prepared income taxes from her home.  

She was a member of Zion St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield, where she actively worshipped and participated in many church committees and ladies’ groups and taught Sunday School for several years.   

Betty was known for the beautiful flowers she grew in her garden and her many collections inside her home.  She and Byron loved to go antique shopping and search for more treasured items.   

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, William (Bill) and Eleanora; her in-laws, Herman and Mabel Heginger; her husband, Byron; her son, Brice; her brothers, Milo, Carl, Paul, Lewis, Floyd, and Ronald; her sisters in law Burnie, Doris, Arvilla, Margaret, and Laurel; her niece Lois Greimann Mayne; Her nephews, Dale, Steve, and Dean.

Left to cherish Betty’s memory are her children: Brenda (Marty) Silverman, Burton (Nanette) Heginger. Daughter-in-law, Mary Heginger.  Grandchildren:  Elena (Andy) Fuentes, Evan (Saphire) Silverman, Easton (Barbara) Silverman; Nathan (Stacie) Heginger, Maci Jo Heginger, Joi (Randy) Woods, Elijah Heginger, Grace Heginger.  Great Grandchildren:  Lilah and Violet Fuentes, Ivan and Eden Silverman, Emilia and Eliot Silverman; Sister-in-law, Arliss Greimann, and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held this Spring. Memorials may be sent to Brenda Silverman at 11515 Creek Crossing, San Antonio, TX 78253, or the charity of your choice.
