Arnold E. Stratmann, 94

Arnold E. Stratmann, 94, of Hampton, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2021, surrounded by family at Franklin Country View Nursing Facility in Hampton.  He was born September 18, 1926, in Hampton, to Carl and Emma (Dohrmann) Stratmann.

Arnold graduated from Latimer High School, class of 1944.  He was united in marriage to Lois Kroeger on December 12, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan.  To this union, four children were born.  Arnold enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country in World War II and the Korean War.  In addition to farming his land, Arnold worked at the Coulter Creamery, Farmland Foods and Beed’s Lake State Park.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton.

Arnold was a hardworking, patient, loving, Child of God who loved to roller skate and was good at it! He was a feisty, fun-loving, ice cream loving jokester, a woodchuck hunter and a farmer who was outstanding in his field.  He was a roll-in-the-grass-playing-with-your-grandkids kind of Grandpa and a fan of the Twins, Vikings, Cardinals and Suns.

Arnold and Lois were married 67 years and enjoyed dancing at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, playing cards, attending children and grandchildren’s activities, and spending winters in Arizona after they retired.

Arnold is survived by his wife Lois Stratmann of Hampton; daughter Linda (Mark) Modderman of Livingston, Texas, son Keith (Kelley) Stratmann of Tonopah, Arizona, son Alan (Jennifer) Stratmann of Hillsboro, Ohio, daughter-in-law Jan Stratmann of Latimer; grandchildren Paul (Christa) Modderman, Colin (Jessica) Modderman, Seth Modderman, Josh (Crystal) Stratmann, Trevor (Jessie) Stratmann; step-grandchildren Eric (Lisa) Fetzer, Renee Kennedy, RaeAnn (Scott) Tombaugh, Heidi (Josh) Gladden, Loren (Melissa) Bryant; 23 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Gary Stratmann, in-laws Paul and Edna Kroeger, sisters Iona (Orville) Winterhof, Elna (Kenneth) Keehn and Norma (Darrel) Borcherding.

Memorials may be directed to the Stratmann family for future distribution to Parkinson’s Disease research, Trinity Lutheran Church, 16 12th Ave NE, Hampton, IA 50441 and St. Paul’s Lutheran School, P.O. Box 609, Latimer, IA 50452.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton.  Burial will take place in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Hampton.
