Ann Lorraine (Gilmer) Bailey, 76

Ann Lorraine (Gilmer) Bailey, 76, of Hampton, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. She was born August 9, 1945, in Oelwein, to Ralph and Dorothy (Holmes) Gilmer.

Ann graduated from West Central High School in Maynard, class of 1963, and received her teaching degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Ann taught 5th grade in the Hampton School District after college. She was united in marriage to Dale LeRoy Bailey on June 14, 1975, in Maynard. Ann stopped teaching when she married to be home with her children. Once they got older, she worked at the Hampton Public Library for many years.

She attended the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hampton where she played the piano and organ. She was also a member of the Treble Clef music group.

Ann enjoyed music, reading and traveling. The family took numerous trips throughout the years. Family was important to her, and she enjoyed visiting and attending her grandchildrens’ events.

Ann is survived by her daughter Karla (Tony) Harter of Grinnell; son Mark (Michelle) Bailey of Johnston; stepson Dallas Bailey of Cincinnati, Ohio; stepson Dennis Bailey of Nora Springs; grandchildren Autumn (fiance Mitchell Heyveld) Landers of Grinnell, Alex Landers of Grinnell, Ozzy Harter of Grinnell, Carter Bailey of Johnston, Asher Bailey of Johnston; great grandson Jackson Heyveld and one on the way; sister Marilyn (Don) Lala of Center Point; brother-in-law Lowell (Linda) Bailey of Bradford; sister-in-law Delores (Bruce) Early of Traer.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Dale Bailey.

Memorials may be directed to the First Congregational United Church of Christ Organ Fund, 22 1st Ave SW, Hampton, IA 50441, and the Hampton Public Library, 4 S Federal St, Hampton, IA 50441.

Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 11, 2021, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hampton. Burial took place in the Hampton Cemetery.
