Bulldogs Claim Deike Duals title as Stevens earns 100th career win

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys’ wrestling team wrapped up its 2022-2023 wrestling regular season by taking the team title at the second annual Steve Deike duals.

The tournament was moved from the beginning of January to the beginning of February on the weekend that used to be sectionals. Coach Patrick Hansen said that with sectional wrestling being eliminated by the state, going two weeks without competing before districts would be tough.

Bulldog basketball teams host Senior Night

When the calendar page turns from January to February that means that the high school basketball season is coming to a close. Players will soon play their final games in their home gyms and be recognized for the years they have put into their programs. The Hampton-Dumont-CAL basketball programs hosted their senior night this past week and several players stepped onto their home courts for the final time.

West Fork boys top Nashua-Plainfield

Friday night the West Fork boys’ basketball team played its final home conference game of the season by welcoming Nashua Plainfield Huskies to Sheffield. The junior varsity squad did an outstanding job controlling the pace of play and executing on both ends of the floor. Coach Bohman commented after the game that “we did a great job jumping on them early and being the cheese!” The Warhawks jumped out to an early lead with their full court press and never let their foot off the gas the entire way, winning by a score of 53-36.

Mother Nature Cancels Dual Tournament for Bulldog Wrestlers

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL Wrestlers lost another event due to a winter storm, but were able to get out and wrestle at the beginning of the week. The Bulldogs finished up their NCC dual slate with a matchup against Algona and West Hancock in Britt on Tuesday night. The Algona Bulldogs would prove to be a tough matchup for the H-D-CAL grapplers. Although H-D-CAL had beaten them in the NCC tournament, Algona would hand the Bulldogs another conference loss 48-22. The winning wrestlers for the Bulldogs were NCC champion Taylor Mahler at 145 pounds with a 12-3 major decision, Karter Jansse

Warhawk Girl Wrestlers Compete in NCC, Regionals

The West Fork Warhawk girl wrestlers were invited down to Hampton to compete in the NCC Girls Invitational. The team took full advantage of the opportunity to compete in the NCC against the four teams that have girls wrestling. The Warhawks would enter nine wrestlers into the field and walk away with four NCC girls champions. At 110 pounds, H-D-CAL student Teaghan Bird would claim an NCC title. She would go 4-0 with four pins in her lone opportunity to wrestle in her home gym. At 115 pounds, Ava Gauley would go 0-4 and take home fifth place. Preslee Dickman would compete at

Bulldog boys’ and girls basketball teams battle in conference games

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls’ and boys’ basketball teams have experienced many different types of ups and downs this season. Through all of this adversity the teams have continued to develop throughout the season.

Coach Brian Niesen has continued to adapt to his team as a first year coach and the team continues to mesh together. Coach Miranda Stafford has battled through injury adversity with a young, inexperienced team. The growth of the teams is starting to show in the win column, but both teams are looking to continue to grow and get more wins.

Warhawks continue winning ways

Tuesday night the West Fork High School boys’ basketball team welcomed Central Springs to Sheffield.

The JV team continued their winning ways with a 26-point victory where they were able to get all players into the game, and everyone played a hand in this decisive victory.

The Warhawk varsity, looking to bounce back from a loss on Saturday, came out with intensity and really brought the energy. The boys quickly jumped out to a 10-0 lead, only to have Central Springs shoot it well from the 3-point line for a close, back and forth game.

Tough Competition and Back to Back Coaches Vs. Cancer for the Bulldogs

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls basketball team might not being seeing the results in the win column, but they are improving on the court. This past week was the toughest week of competition they have faced all year. The team has not shied away from competition all year. Although it can be tough to not see the results in the win column the girls have made tremendous growth this season.
