In between the myriad of awful things that have happened in the last several weeks nationwide, a much more trivial event has impacted me on a more personal level.

DeNA, a developer of various mobile games, announced that "Final Fantasy: Record Keeper" will be shutting down at the end of September.

FFRK, as it is abbreviated, launched in March of 2015 and I came across the game not long after. Since then, logging on to the game to collect my daily rewards and running my characters through a few dungeons has been part of my daily routine.

Graphical fidelity in games has definitely come a long way since I was a kid, but more and more it's becoming clear that there isn't much further they can go.

Last week, Capcom finally released an update to three of their recent Resident Evil games. "Resident Evil 7" and the remakes of "Resident Evil 2" and "Resident Evil 3," all games that were originally released between 2017 and 2020, were updated to better take advantage of modern graphics technology.

So, a weird thing happened this weekend.

A really mediocre movie returned to theaters and did exactly as well as you would expect it to against a line-up that includes "Top Gun: Maverick" and "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness."

Oh, poor Sony Pictures. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is as much a pop culture juggernaut as its ever been, Sony's Marvel-adjacent offerings still struggle with getting their time in the spotlight.

There's been a bit of hubbub about Netflix lately.

In the face of subscription losses, it seems that the trailblazer of streaming services is doubling back towards some rocky terrain. Specifically, rumors are abound that the company is looking into adding an ad-supported tier of service to the platform.

That's aggravating, but not entirely unexpected. Ad-supported streaming services with higher costing ad-free tiers are becoming increasingly common and it was probably inevitable that Netflix would eventually go down that road.
