Bulldog freshman medals in first state meet run

FORT DODGE – Lydia Maas came to Fort Dodge’s Kennedy Park with something to prove.

The Bulldog freshman maybe didn’t run her goal time nor have a great start, but she finished eighth overall in a field of 131 Class 3A runners at the state cross country meet to earn her first in what she hopes is four state medals.

Bulldog freshman Maas qualifies for Class 3A state meet

WAVERLY – Lydia Maas admits she didn’t want to let anybody down.

She certainly did enough to make Bulldog faithful proud by qualifying for her first state meet as a freshman by finishing fifth out of 83 runners at the Class 3A state qualifier in Waverly on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Maas ran 18 minutes, 46.77 seconds to reserve her spot at Fort Dodge’s Kennedy Park on Friday, Oct. 30.

“I’m really excited,” Maas said. “Going into this meet, the goal was top-five which I did end up doing. So, that was really good.

Meyer claims NCC title; Maas runner-up with new PR

CLEAR LAKE – The first time Ellie Meyer of Iowa Falls-Alden/AGWSR and the Bulldogs’ Lydia Maas raced, they finished one-two, but on Tuesday, Oct. 13, this meant a little bit more to the both of them.

Meyer claimed the North Central Conference girls’ varsity title at Clear Lake’s Veterans Memorial Golf Course with a personal best of 18 minutes, 17.57 seconds and Maas also broke 19 minutes by going 18:56.70 as runner-up.

Bulldogs’ Maas runs second-best time at Maynes Grove

HAMPTON – Looking at Bulldog freshman Lydia Maas run, you’d think she is a seasoned veteran who has been part of running clubs for years.

Not so.

The winner of the 2020 Bulldog Invitational, who also happens to have run the second-best varsity girls’ time ever on the course, says she just started running seriously in the seventh grade.

“So, I started in seventh grade, in middle school,” Maas said, “but before that I never really ran a lot. I always kind of liked it when we’d play tag at recess and stuff.

Bulldog trio nab top-10 finishes at Cadet Invitational

HAMPTON – Some young, strong Bulldog runners took to Maynes Grove and raced to top-10 finishes, including a runner-up spot for freshman Lydia Maas in the varsity girls’ race on Thursday, Aug. 27.

Maas was second only to IF-A/AGWSR’s Ellie Meyer, who claimed her second straight home meet title.

Meyer ran to the win in 19 minutes, 27.7 seconds while Maas was nearly two minutes back at 21:17.5. Third-place, also by the Cadets’ Teah Miller, was more than a minute behind Maas (22:59.8).
