Galen Albert Hackbarth

Galen Albert Hackbarth, 83, of Hampton, passed away peacefully at his home on June 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Galen was born on December 5, 1942, in Hampton, to parents Myron A. and Joyce P. (Wharton) Hackbarth. He grew up helping his father and mother run their family’s century farm with sisters, Myrna and Janet.
On January 1, 1967, he married Alta Belle (Dalton) Fleener, the absolute love of his life. Together they shared 59 years of marriage and created a home in rural Coulter filled with love, laughter and many memories while raising their daughters, Susan, Shelley and Stacy.
Galen was preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Joyce Hackbarth; his wife, Alta Hackbarth; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jim (Betsy) Dalton, Basil Dalton, and Alma (Joe) Waddle. He is survived by his daughters, Susan (John) McDermott, Shelley (Dave) Anderson, and Stacy (Scott) Heiserman; grandchildren, Josh McDermott, Jacob (Kayla) McDermott, Ryan Anderson, Taylor Anderson, Justin Heiserman, Jessica (Nick) Brooks, Jaiden Heiserman (fiancé Jacob Beasley), and honorary grandson Blake Heiserman (fiancé Ali Rice); great-grandchildren, Ronan and Ellis McDermott, Gage Dorr, Zander, Brayden, and Brielle Heiserman, and Brody and Olivia Brooks; sisters, Myrna (Ken) Bertheau and Janet Hackbarth, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A joint ceremony of celebration of life for Galen and Alta will be held on July 18th at 2 pm at the Coulter Community center. Please join us to celebrate and share stories and memories.
