No. 15 BCLUW rallies back over AGWSR

ACKLEY – It was an emotional Senior Night for AGWSR’s Alyssa Hames.

Hames and her fellow seniors were missing her father, Brad, less than a month after he suddenly passed away while out for a walk.

And the Cougars, along with Hames, gave everything they had against the Class 1A No. 15-ranked BCLUW volleyball team, coming up short in five sets despite having the Comets at match point on three different occasions in sets three and four on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Cougars battle in delayed season opener

REINBECK – A road game against an NICL West foe wasn’t exactly the way AGWSR volleyball thought its season would begin.

Nonetheless, the Cougars unleashed a lot of pent-up energy and saw growth over the course of a four-set defeat against Gladbrook-Reinbeck at G-R High School in Reinbeck on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The Rebels, ranked 11th in Class 1A, defeated AGWSR 25-21, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21. G-R improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the West.

AGWSR storms back for five-set win against North Butler

GREENE – AGWSR coach Jill Smith said she couldn’t pinpoint one thing that sparked the turnaround in her team’s astounding five-set comeback over North Butler on Thursday, Sept. 19.

Leading 2-0, North Butler had a late lead in the third set and appeared to be cruising for a sweep.

AGWSR outlasts South Hardin

ACKLEY – It’s not the start but the finish that counts.

AGWSR started slow before rallying for a highly-intense five-set victory over the South Hardin volleyball team here Tuesday during a North Iowa Cedar League West Conference match.

The Tigers posted wins of 25-19, 25-17 followed by Cougar victories of 25-21, 26-24 and 15-12.
