Arlene Troester, 97
Arlene Troester, 97, of Hampton, died on November 27 at Franklin General Hospital. Funeral Services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton with Rev. Karl Bollhagen and Vicar Jason Shepard officiating. A private burial was held at St.Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Latimer. Woodley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Arlene was born February 1, 1926 in Hampton, Iowa to Carl and Verna Borcherding. She attended St. Paul Lutheran school in Latimer and graduated from Latimer High School in 1943. After attending American Institute of Business, she was employed by Lew Implement, Iowa Fall, Iowa for two years.
On January 5, 1947, Arlene married Griffeth Troester. They farmed in the Latimer area for 30 years before moving to Hampton where Arlene was a bank teller at First National Bank for 14 years.
Arlene served her church in various ways and held various offices in her local LWML along with serving as District LWML treasure for 8 years. She was active in the community as a 4H leader, 4H County Committee member, FGH Auxiliary member, and a volunteer for Hospice. For a number of years she helped tend the flower gardens at the hospital.
Arlene was a faithful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved playing games and cards, especially bridge. Griff and Arlene traveled to all but one state, Brazil, and Germany. She enjoyed watching Iowa and Iowa State basketball games. Working in the yard and mowing lawn were a favorite pastime. She was always up for an outing with friends.
Arlene is survived by her children: Sandra (Keith) Herman, Fort Wayne, IN, Craig (Nancy), Buchanan, VA, Joel (Joanie), Hampton, IA, and Ranae (Jack) Baker, Peoria, AZ, 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and sister Marj Bredehoeft, Roselle, IL.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Griffeth, her husband of 65 year, grandson Cooper Herman, and siblings, Ivan Borcherding, Leon Borcherding, and Emelda Krage!.
