Doris Knueppel, 93
Doris Knueppel, 93, of Hampton, passed away Friday, September 22, 2023, at Franklin Country View Nursing Facility in Hampton. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 2, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hampton. Interment will be at the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m., until the service at the church.
Doris Mae Knueppel, daughter of John and Luella (Vanston) Schulz, was born on the family farm in Westfork TWP, Franklin County, Iowa, on October 10, 1929. Doris started school at West Fork Country School #9. When her family moved to Hansell, Iowa, she continued her education at Hansell Consolidated School where she graduated. She received the gift of a beloved husband, Orval Knueppel on June 12, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hampton and was joined in Holy Matrimony by Rev. A.F. Lindner. On September 25, 1949, Doris was made a child of the Triune God in the waters of Holy Baptism. That same day she also publicly confessed her faith in Jesus Christ as taught by the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Orval and Doris moved to Hampton in 1950 where they raised their sons, Dale, Joel, and Alan. At Trinity Lutheran Church Doris held offices in the ladies Missionary Society, taught Sunday School, VBS, and along with her husband was a youth counselor for many years. Doris participated in many activities at Trinity. God blessed Doris with a holy death on September 22, 2023 and she now rests in Jesus a waiting the resurrection of the dead.
Doris was a homemaker, a care giver and volunteer. She was blessed with the gifts of listening and conversation and found joy in turning strangers and newcomers into friends. She was a member of the Child Guidance Mother’s Club, the Franklin General Hospital Auxiliary, and the Hampton Senior Center. The joys of Doris’ life were her two large families, including many nieces and nephews, her friends and Trinity family members with which she kept in touch.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, son Joel in 2003, husband Orval in 2005, and all seven siblings and their spouses, including Russell (Myrtle), Rollin (Lois), Vernice (Joseph) Kelly, Valera (Cletis) Harper, Dean (Ruth), Vera Stock (Fred) Crandell, and Dwight (Mary), along with husband Orval’s parents D.J. (Edna) and his siblings including Raymond, Donald, Lois (Ken) Weeden, James, Marian (Charles) Peebles, Helen (Dean) Soder, Robert Kurth, John Knueppel and Robert Knueppel.
Doris is survived by two sons: Dale (Evelyn), Monroe, NY; Alan (Marsha), Westland, MI; grandchildren: Kristina Knueppel; Kevin Knueppel and his daughter Marsha Bea, all of Westland, MI; grandson Jason of Gilbert, AZ and his son Michael (Te Sa) Knueppel and their son Tyler, Mesa, AZ; in-laws: Robert (Linda) Knueppel; Doris Kurth; Enid Knueppel, and many nieces and nephews.
The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord.
