West Fork baseball drops first three
SHEFFIELD — The West Fork High School baseball team dropped the first three games of its season last week, including its Top of Iowa Conference opener.
The Warhawks fell 8-0 to Clear Lake Tuesday. The Lions scored the only runs they would need in the first inning and added a run in the third and five in the fifth. Edison Maske had the lone Warhawk hit, a single, while Zander Hansen drew a pair of walks. Casyn Guerrero started on the mound and allowed four runs in five innings while striking out six.
Wednesday, Rockford scored in every inning on its way to an 11-1 victory over the Warhawks. The Warriors led 4-1 after four innings and put the game away with a seven-run fifth. West Fork again struggled at the plate, collecting just three hits, singles by Hansen, Ashyr Wiseman and Trevor Despenas. Hansen took the loss on the mound, striking out two in four innings of work.
The Warhawks trailed Iowa Falls-Alden jut 3-1 after three innings before the Cadets jumped ahead 9-1 wwith a six-run fourth inning. West Fork answered with a four-run fifth but could pull no closer in an 11-6 loss. Despenas led the offense with a pair of hits while Guerrero drove home a pair of runs. The Warhawks had six hits in the game, all singles. Nolan Shreckengost took the pitching loss, striking out six in four and one-third innings of work. Ashyr Wiseman struck out five hitters in a relief effort.
The Warhawks played at No. 2 ranked (Class 1A) Newman Catholic Tuesday. They host winless Central Springs Wednesday and winless Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Thursday before traveling to Saint Ansgar Friday.
