Patsy Lee (Hummel) Booth, 87, of Hampton, Iowa passed away May 8, 2023, at Franklin General Hospital.
A memorial service will be held in Fairfield, Iowa, Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Behner Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.
Patsy was born Feb 16, 1936, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Lenox and Mary Louise (Baker) Hummel. She married Franklin “Frankie” Booth June 30, 1957, and had two children, Michelle, and Michael. Frank died January 19, 1996. They farmed with Frank’s family and Patsy taught grade school in the Fairfield school district, earning her master’s in Elementary Science from Northeast Missouri State University later in her career. She had an interest in space and even applied to NASA for the teacher position on the Challenger Space Shuttle. She retired early to care for her mother. After 45 years in Fairfield, she moved in 2002 to New Hampton with her son’s family to continue farming. She moved again with the family in 2010 to Hampton after selling the family farm. In June 2019, she resided at Apple Valley Assisted Living where she enjoyed creating cards to share with friends and family.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, sister Sally (Hummel) Large, husband Frank, her children Michelle and Michael, and granddaughter Lynnsey Donald.
She is survived by her sister Carol (Hummel) Binger of Pasco, WA; daughter-in-law Kimberly Booth of Hampton; granddaughters Marah Booth of New Hampton and Taylor Ward of Marshalltown; four great-granddaughters Kaelyn Deetz, Ellie Koska, Emaela Ward and Olive Ward; great-grandson Ashton Tlusty, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Hampton Public Library. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Hampton and Behner Funeral Home are assisting with arrangements.
