Margaret "Marge" Ann Hemmes, 89

Margaret "Marge" Ann Hemmes, 89, of Hampton, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the Sheffield Care Center. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 29, 2023, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hampton. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial took place in the Hampton Cemetery. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home of Hampton cared for Marge and her family.

Marge was born May 28, 1933, in Dumont, daughter of Jasper and Allie (Folkerts) Kriens. She was the thirteenth of their fifteen children. Marge graduated from Dumont High School, class of 1951. On August 13, 1955, she was united in marriage to Delbert “Dub” Hemmes. To this union one son was born, Delmar Dale Hemmes.

Marge worked at Maytag in Hampton until her retirement in 1985. She kept busy after retirement working as a cook at Dudley’s Corner, and as a dietary aid at Dumont Wellness Center and Franklin General Hospital. Marge was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hampton.

In her spare time you could often find Marge watching John Wayne movies or playing cards – mostly SkipBo or Hand and Foot. She also loved cooking and baking for her friends and family. Marge was an avid collector, notably collecting Betty Boop memorabilia. She was a thoughtful, caring person who will be missed dearly by those lucky enough to have known her.

Marge is survived by her sister Shirley Evans of Dumont and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dub Hemmes, son Delmar Hemmes, eight brothers and six sisters.
