A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hampton. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will take place in the Dumont Cemetery.

Bud was born on November 7, 1934, in Dumont, to Ebel and Gladys (Silver) Ibeling.  He attended country school at Madison #2 in Butler County and graduated from Dumont High School in 1953.  Bud served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958, where he was assigned to field artillery and was trained as a medic.  He attended Iowa Lakes Community College, where he received his training and certification to drive truck.

Bud began farming on the home farm, a Century farm on his mother’s side.  The farm had originally been bought directly from the United States government by his great-grandfather John Silver.  He grew crops and raised livestock.  Besides farming, Bud worked various jobs including as a carpenter for Leroy Cassmann, road mowing for Franklin County, construction with Shaw Construction, and gravel truck driving and rock hauling for his brother James Ibeling, who owned ABCO Concrete and Construction Co.  He supported Jim’s rock business by finding rocks on farms, working with farmers to get them dug out, and stock piling them on the farm for later use.  Many of the rocks were used for retaining walls around West Des Moines.  Bud also worked for Northrup King for a short time.

Bud loved driving all over to have coffee and visit with others, as well as driving his brother Jim’s John Deere tractor on a few KLMJ tractor rides.  He also enjoyed listening to music.  Bud was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hampton.

Bud lived the majority of his life on the family farm along Maynes Creek, southwest of Dumont.  He moved to an apartment in Hampton and after suffering a stroke, he moved to the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton.

Bud is survived by his sisters, Mary Ann Patton and Anna Mae Stiles; nieces, Ann Marie Patton, Mary Frances Patton (partner Mike Kostboth), and Heather (Ryan) Weaverling; nephews, Cory (Maria) Stiles and Todd (Mphatso) Stiles; great-nieces, Sydney Weaverling and Kiiweni Stiles; great-nephews, Tristan Weaverling, Kristian Sullivan, and Ian, Brodie, Chase, Tate, Micah, and Neteve Stiles.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, Ebel and Gladys, sister, Frances Marie “Tootie” Ibeling at age two, brother, James Ibeling in 2021, and brother-in-law, William “Bill” Patton in 2022.

Memorial contributions may be given to Bud’s family for future disbursement.
