Bulldog Boys Basketball Finish Season

Will Sackville finishing an easy lay-up against the Lions.
The Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys basketball team saw ups and downs during its 2022-23 season. It took ranked teams to overtime and played competitively with others. The team has also played in some games that it would probably like to have back. The boys have shown growth and had a couple chances against a good Clear Lake team to show the growth they have made during the season.
The final regular season game for the Bulldogs was at home against a Clear Lake team coming in with an 18-1 record and looking to lock up the North Central Conference title. The Lions would bring the energy of a team trying to win a conference title by jumping out to an 18-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs started to find their offense in the second quarter but the Lions would continue to score and would lead 40-14 at halftime. The Lions would cruise to a 68-44 victory over the Bulldogs. Scott Harr led the Bulldogs with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Will Sackville added 13 points and eight rebounds. The Bulldogs finished the regular season 7-14 overall and 4-10 in the North Central Conference.
Monday, Feb. 20, the Bulldogs traveled to Clear Lake to face the Lions in a first-round district game. The Lions were the top seeded team in the bracket and showed why they are ranked second in the state in Class 3A by jumping out to a 24-8 lead over the Bulldogs after one quarter. The Lions would continue their performance with a 39-18 lead at halftime and went on to advance to the second round of the tournament and end the Bulldogs’ season with a 67-35 victory. Harr led the Bulldogs with 21 points and eight rebounds. The rest of the Bulldogs would struggle to score, as no other players would score in double figures. The final record for the Bulldogs would be 7-15.
Harr led the Bulldogs with 22.4 points, 13.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game on the season. Tucker Heeren averaged 11.4 points per game while shooting 30.5 percent from 3-point range. Brody Walton led the team with 1.7 steals per game. The team would finish the season averaging 57.5 points per game on 40.9 percent shooting as a team.
