Dorothy Jean Taylor, 85
Dorothy Jean Taylor, 85, of Geneva, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2022 at her home.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 10:3o a.m., at the Geneva United Methodist Church with Pastor Brent Hamilton presiding. Burial will be at Lindenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be open for friends and family from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, September 26, at Counsell Woodley Funeral Home in Hampton, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to the Geneva United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice in her memory.
Dorothy was born September 27, 1936, in Dumont at the Dohlman house to Lester and Leola (Dohlman) Roegner. She attended school in Geneva and graduated in 1953. Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert Taylor on July 24, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. This union resulted in five very much loved children and lasted 61 years. Dorothy was a very hard worker and was proud to have worked at the Bell Telephone Company, Geneva School district, Geneva Elevator, as Geneva City Clerk, and for Jeff Jaacks in Hampton as a bookkeeper. Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Geneva United Methodist Church and played the organ for many years.
Dorothy loved to crochet and go fishing in Minnesota. She also very much enjoyed cheering the Minnesota Twins and the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball team. She liked to keep active working in her flower gardens and mowing 6 acres of lawn for the past several years. Everyone loved her cooking, especially her potato salad. She hosted every holiday for her large family as well as a family picnic this past summer. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her son Dave Taylor of Geneva, daughters Debra Oelmann of Parkersburg, Diane Warren of Pleasant Hill, Denise Knoll of St. Peter, MN, and Darlene (George) Shepherd of Waukee, 15 grandchildren: Traci (Reed) Aswegen, Ryan (Amanda) Oelmann, Troy (Kimberly) Warren, Tiffany (Jason) Druivenga, Josh Taylor, Tosha Taylor, Jason Taylor, Jay (Sara) Knoll, Jeremy (Sammi Joan) Knoll, Jared Knoll, Justin (Taylor) Knoll, Jenna (Skip Thomas) Knoll, Teri (Brian) Barney, Kristi Shepherd, and Kyle (Karessa) Shepherd, 20 great-grandchildren: Missy, Lexi, Britnie, Kenley, Madelyn, Aiden, Wally, Cordelia, Connor, Mylah, Blaire, Cora, Elvie, Sophie, Ensley, Camden, Kinley, Kruz, Taisley, and Luka, 4 sisters: Ruby VanGerpen of Overland Park, KS, Lois Bittner of Eldridge, Judy (Rich) Heitland of Geneva, and Jeanene Chipp of Latimer, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents and husband Robert in 2017.
