Before the door can be officially closed on the 2020-2021 season, there is one more accolade earned by the West Fork baseball team. It was not only through play on the field, but also through the exemplary character shown within and beyond the walls of West Fork High School.
Announced on August 2 by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association, recent graduate Noah Maske was named to the 35th All-Academic Team. Furthermore, Maske was recognized as a member of the First Team Academic All-State squad.
A panel of coaches selected Maske and 23 others senior players who demonstrated outstanding academic, moral and athletic characteristics.
Noah was also one of two players from the Top of Iowa Conference’s Eastern Division to receive the honor, alongside St. Ansgar’s Justin Horgen. Within the overall Top of the Iowa Conference, Maske was one of three players (alongside Horgen and Bishop Garrigan’s Aric Laubenthal) named to the IHSBCA’s Academic All-State First Team.
During the 2021 summer campaign, Maske started in all 27 games.
In his 85 appearances at the plate, Noah tallied 20 hits and nine RBIs. Maske’s base running was also solid, stealing 10 bases over the course of the season.
On the mound, Maske recorded 13 strikeouts in a little more than 19 innings. Maske pitched in nine contests, and started in three.
The Warhawks finished the season with an 8-7 record within the Top of Iowa Conference-East and 12-15 overall.
