HDC baseball season finished in 0-6 loss

Hampton-Dumont/CAL baseball finished the regular season and played in the first round of districts.

Unfortunately, this would mark the end of the season for the Bulldogs, who would fall to Waverly-Shell Rock on the road on Friday in a 0-6 loss.

On July 12, HDC hosted Humboldt and was defeated, 1-3.

On July 13, the team traveled to Boone and lost, 2-12.

Against Waverly-Shell Rock, HDC struggled at bat.

The Dogs didn’t have a hit in the contest, and had one batter walked.

On the mound, Brayden Johnson let up six hits and four walks.

He struck out three batters.

The Bulldogs didn’t make any errors.

Against Humboldt, the game was standstill at zero until the bottom of the fifth.

It was there, HDC struck first blood with one run.

The Wildcats answered back with a score of their own in the sixth inning.

In the seventh inning, Humboldt would take the lead and expand with two runs.

The Bulldogs had six hits vs the Wildcat’s five hits.

Humboldt’s Caden Matson had two home run hits to score all three runs for his team.

Mario De La Cruz had one hit and recorded the sole RBI.

Johnson and Marco Guerrero combined for nine strikeouts.

Against Boone, the Bulldogs scored its two runs in the top of the third, putting the game at 2-2.

Boone would score three in the next inning and then run away with the game in the fifth scoring seven runs.

The Bulldogs had just two hits while Boone recorded 14 hits.

Payton McNealy and Tucker Heeren recorded those two hits.

Pitcher Riley Heeren, threw for four strikeouts, he’d let up six hits, walked three and hit four batters.
