Bulldogs softball plays down to the wire
The Hampton-Dumont/CAL softball team had three games decided by two runs or less.
On June 21, the Dogs lost, 4-6, to Iowa Falls-Alden in Hampton.
The team would secure a win on June 22 at home, defeating West Fork, 4-2.
On Wednesday, the week came to a close with a home loss to Webster City, 3-4.
Against Iowa Falls-Alden, HDC found themselves down 0-4 leading into the sixth inning.
The Bulldogs put up a single run in the bottom of the sixth and then let up two more runs to the Cadets.
HDC put in a solid effort, scoring three runs, but ultimately came up short in completing the comeback.
The team had 10 hits.
Kylee Whipple had four hits and two RBIs.
Avery Hanson struck out seven batters in the matchup.
In the West Fork victory, the Bulldogs scored three runs in the sixth inning to put the game in its favor.
HDC had nine hits.
Courtney Bower had three hits.
Hanson had two hits and two RBI.
Hanson held West Fork to four hits and struck out eight strikeouts.
In Wednesday’s game, Webster City took a two-run lead in the first inning.
HDC scored three runs at the bottom of the fifth for the lead.
The Lynx tied the game at three immediately after.
The game had to go to extra innings to decide the game, where Webster City scored the sole run to take home the victory.
