Bulldogs baseball competes in four close games
Hampton-Dumont/CAL baseball went through four close matchups this week.
On June 21, the Bulldogs defeated Iowa Falls-Alden, 7-5, in Hampton.
On June 22, HDC hosted West Fork and fell, 3-7.
The team faced Webster City on Wednesday at home and was defeated, 9-15.
Finally, on Thursday, the team played Nashua-Plainfield in Hampton and lost to the Huskies, 3-5.
In the Iowa-Falls-Alden game, HDC took a commanding 6-1 lead after scoring five runs at the bottom of the fifth.
The Dogs held improved to seven runs the next inning.
The Cadets attempted a comeback and got to four runs before the final out was called. The Bulldogs had nine total hits.
Marco Guerrero had two hits, one for a triple.
Mario De La Cruz batted in three runners with a double.
In the West Fork game, HDC took a two-run lead after the first inning.
By the seventh inning, the Dogs clung to a 3-2 lead before giving up five runs to lose.
The team totaled for seven hits.
Payton McNealy and Brayden Johnson had two hits apiece.
Marcos Baez struck out seven batters.
On Wednesday, the Bulldogs scored five runs at the bottom of the second.
Webster City scored six in response.
HDC answered back with two runs to go up 7-6.
From there, the scoring was mostly the Lynx.
The Dogs recorded 11 hits.
De La Cruz led the team with two hits and two RBI.
Finally, against Nashua-Plain field, the Bulldogs scored an early two runs and found themselves up, 3-2, as the game came to a close.
Three runs in the top of the seventh by the Huskies would put the team down for its third loss that week.
HDC had seven total hits.
Guerrero, De La Cruz and McNealy each had two hits; Guerrero had a triple.
