Trask promoted to WF head boys’ basketball coach

After wishing Hall-of-Fame head coach Frank Schnoes farewell, the West Fork boys’ basketball program has found their new coach. Fortunately for the Warhawks’ athletic department, they didn’t have to go very far to find their guy.
In an announcement made via the West Fork School District’s social media on June 9, Trent Trask was called up to take over the program. Trask is not new to the Warhawks or coaching duties, having served as the junior varsity coach for the past five seasons.
On the academic side, Trask is a special education teacher at West Fork Middle School. Trask – a native of Rockford – graduated from Buena Vista University in 2020.
While pacing the sidelines this coming winter, Trask will have some large shoes to fill.
Schnoes retired from West Fork after 47 years of experience, racking up 602 career victories and six IHSAA State Basketball Tournament appearances. In 2020, the Warhawks finished fourth in the Class 1A State Tournament.
Trask will aim to keep the momentum generated by Schnoes, as the Warhawks finished 20-4 overall with a 15-0 mark within the Top of Iowa-East with a core of talented seniors. Their bid to return to Wells Fargo Arena came up short this past season, however, falling to Lake Mills in the Class 1A-Substate 2 Championship.
Even though eight players will depart due to graduation, Trask will inherit forward Nate Hubka and center Edison Caspers, along with guards Josiah Chibambo, Trevor Guritz, Casyn Guerrero and forward Cayde Eberling.
