Class 3A No. 4 Lions run away late

CLEAR LAKE – Class 3A No. 4-ranked Clear Lake outscored the Class 3A No. 15 Bulldogs 21-2 in the final quarter to squelch any thoughts of an upset on Friday, Dec. 18.
Coach Miranda Valley’s team hit some three-pointers to come within single digits at 46-37 before the Lions hit from deep in the final eight minutes to put it away, 67-39.
Avery Hanson led the Bulldogs with 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field, including 3-of-10 from beyond the three-point line. She added a game-tying high of seven rebounds and two steals.
The Lions held Lauren Meader well below her average of 17.6 points per game as she finished with eight.
The Bulldogs were back in action on the road against Class 2A No. 8 Grundy Center on Monday, Dec. 21 and finished up the first half of the season at home against an always-dangerous Humboldt team on Tuesday, Dec. 22.
