West Fork cruises to Homecoming win

SHEFFIELD — West Fork’s Homecoming Week came to a successful conclusion Friday night, as the Warhawk gridders rolled to a 48-8 victory over the Nashua-Plainfield Huskies in Class A, District 3 action.
The Warhawks ran their record to 2-1 in Class A, District 3 action and raised their overall mark to 3-1. Nashua-Plainfield fell to 0-3 in the district and 1-4 overall.
Senior quarterback Kayden Ames was a standout performer for the West Fork offense. He completed 11 of 19 passes for 153 yards and five touchdowns. Ames also was the team’s top ground gainer with 17 tries for 58 yards and one score.
For the night, West Fork amassed 312 yards of offense.
The Warhawk defense allowed 188 yards for the night.
Josiah Chibambo finished with a team-best four solo tackles.
Riley Peterson, Nate Akins and Levi Janssen each had fumble recoveries.
West Fork scored touchdowns on its first two possessions of the opening stanza to build a 14-0 lead.
Ames hooked up with Ren Heimer on a 19-yard TD aerial for the initial TD. After West Fork recovered the ensuing squib kickoff at the Huskies’ 37, Ames capped off the drive with a two-yard plunge with 3 minutes, 42 seconds left on the clock. He also ran in the conversion.
Four minutes into the second period, Ames lofted a 37-yard scoring strike to Chibambo along the right sideline. Heimer added the PAT kick to make it 21-0.
West Fork added two more scoring strikes later in the frame — an eight-yard shovel pass to Chibambo and a two-yard aerial to Joe Ingham.
The Warhawks were up 35-0 at intermission.
With the continuous clock running for a good part of the second half, West Fork was able to maintain its comfortable margin.
The hosts got TDs from Trevor Guritz (a five-yard pass from Ames) in the third quarter and from Jaxon Mclemore (an eight-yard run) in the final stanza.
Nashua-Plainfield’s lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter via a 37-yard pass from Tyson White to Max Hillegas. Kristian Holmvig tacked on the two-point conversion run.
West Fork plays its final road game of the regular season this Friday at Lake Mills.
