SHEFFIELD — The West Fork Warhawks opened the home portion of their football schedule in impressive fashion Friday night, rolling to a 35-0 win over the Central Springs Panthers.

The Warhawks (1-2) took control in the opening quarter.

On the first play from scrimmage, senior standout Ian Latham broke loose on a 45-yard jaunt down the sideline which carried the ball to the Central Springs 5.

Brett Weaver made his way into the end zone on the next play to get the hosts on the board. Ren Heimer tacked on the PAT kick to boost the Warhawks to a 7-0 advantage.

Kayden Ames expanded the West Fork lead to 13-0 at the 4-minute, 36-second mark of the opening frame by returning a pass interception 71 yards for a touchdown. Weaver’s two-point conversion run made it 15-0.

The Warhawks turned away a Central Springs scoring threat early in the second quarter, with Devon Geiger intercepting a pass in the end zone.

West Fork proceeded to march the ball 80 yards for its next touchdown. Capping off the drive was a four-yard Latham burst with 4:08 remaining in the half. Heimer’s conversion kick expanded the West Fork advantage to 22-0.

The hosts tacked on 13 additional points in the second half to wrap up their impressive triumph. Latham accounted for both of those scores on running plays.

Latham ended up with 16 rushes for 132 yards, while Weaver racked up 50 yards on 10 tries.

Geiger was the leading performer on defense for the winners, collecting three solo stops and seven assists.

Central Springs saw its season record fall to 1-2 with Friday’s loss. The Panthers will host Mason City Newman Catholic this Friday.

West Fork now looks forward to this Friday’s Homecoming game against the Nashua-Plainfield Huskies. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
