HAMPTON – On a night in which the senior wrestlers, cheerleaders and managers were honored, a pair of freshmen helped seal the deal for the Hampton-Dumont Bulldogs against Forest City.

Trailing 34-27 going into the final two matches of the varsity dual with Johnny Guerrero and Isaac Shelton coming up, the Bulldogs needed bonus points from at least one of them to clinch it.

After Guerrero (11-15) did his part with a 7-1 decision at 145 pounds, Shelton, who was 10-16 going into the match came out aggressive and pinned Frank West in 2 minutes, 34 seconds that brought a roar from the appreciative crowd in the 36-34 victory.

“I was really nervous but people just told me ‘don’t worry about it, just try your hardest’ and they didn’t care,” Shelton said. “They cared, but they cared most if I tried my hardest and not give up.”
