It was a musical weekend for Hampton as the Franklin County Arts Council brought budding vocal professionals to the area for the fourth annual Young Performing Artist & Scholarship Benefit Concert.

This year's young artists were Jesse Donner and Jocelyn Ascherl. Donner has performed in Hampton once before, visiting four years ago as part of Simon Estes' "Roots and Wings" tour.

On Friday, the young performers visited West Fork, Hampton-Dumont, and CAL schools to talk with students about their journey to become professional vocalists.

"When it was time to decide whether to go out into the world and get a big person job or follow music, I decided on music," said Ascherl, who, along with performing, has followed her mother down the path of teaching vocal music. In between teaching and performing, Ascherl is currently working on completing her Master's degree at Michigan State University.
