Writer thanks Good Samaritan for help with flat tire

Letter to the Editor: To the editor: There are many special people out there and Friday night, we met one, our guardian angel.
We were traveling to Des Moines late Friday afternoon on I-35 when we had a flat tire. Luckily, we could pull off at the Sheffield-Belmond off ramp. We had a donut tire to put on but, of course, you cannot remove lug nuts, as they seem to be welded on. Calls to various tire shops either did not answer or they were closing for the weekend.
Luckily for us, Christopher Bell, from Hampton-Dows area and his wife and child stopped to help. He said he could get the tire off, as that is what he did for a living.
He did get the tire off but it was shot. He offered to call Tony’s Tire in Williams and get another. He even paid for the tire with his credit card since he was acquainted with them.
Then he said he would take his family home, pick up tools and the tire in Williams and came up to the rest area. Between them, they got the tire changed and we were on our way.
We drove there and sure enough, within 45 minutes, he was there. A friend whose name I didn’t get, had picked up the tire in Williams and came up to the rest area.
We have never been more grateful and appreciative for anyone as we were of this fine man. He want out of his way on a Friday night to stop, help get the tire off and then come back to help put another tire on.
You do not often find such a Good Samaritan, but I guess here in Iowa you kind of expect it. We do not know you or your family but your parents must be very proud to have raised such a fine young man. Good luck in everything you do.
We will try to “pay it forward,” as best we can.
God bless you and your wife and son.
Thank you,
Dan and Nancy Cutler
