Wright County scrambles to limit bird flu’s impact

The high pathogenic bird flu virus continued its spread across Wright County last week. The Iowa Department of Agriculture announced on May 8 that two more probable cases were found at commercial laying operations there, one with an estimated 2.9 million birds and another with an estimated 1.1 million birds.
     Between the three infected locations, 6.8 million birds in Wright County may need to be destroyed.
     On May 5, the Wright County Board of Supervisors announced that the Iowa DOT applied dust control on the shoulders of the state highways near its poultry facilities.
     “We appreciate the cooperation and quick response of the Iowa DOT to our request for dust control to the shoulders of the county blacktop roads near the local facilities as well,” said Wright County Engineer Adam Clemons in a release.
