Newly appointed Hampton Mayor Russell Wood knows the importance of the position well.
He knows it’s a chance to represent the community, serve as a voice for the Hampton City Council and exercise his 26 years of experience in governmental work. Those are the reasons why Wood, how serves as the Franklin County Community Services Director, applied for the mayoral vacancy after former mayor Brook Boehmler announced his resignation from the position effective July 1.
“Even though the mayor doesn’t vote on the day-to-day stuff, the mayor does set the tone for the community and I would like to have the opportunity to represent the community in general,” he said. “You still have the opportunity to take the values that have been established by the council and go out into the community with those values.”
For the last year and a half, Wood served as an At-Large councilman. He said he got involved with local government in the first place because of the chance to use his knowledge with governmental entities to help effectively manage taxpayer dollars and organize priorities.
