ROCKWELL – Chris Rogne needed something to come up with for entertainment when a family reunion loomed a few years ago.

The solution? A homemade wiffle ball field on his farm.

“I guess it all started a few years ago around my daughter’s birthday, we had a family reunion with my brothers and sisters, my parents and others – we had to have something for them to do,” said Rogne, who recently stepped down as head baseball coach at West Fork High School to concentrate on being middle school principal. “It became the spot where we played at. We used different spots for bases and then we acquired some stuff.”

What he acquired to complete the transformation included the tools to mow the field.

“(We got) an old wheel mower, the kind you push: it mowed the grass real short,” Rogne said. “I just thought I’d mow out foul lines and then that turned into a home plate area, mound and shortstop area and that’s how it came about.”
