Wet weather holds up harvest

Damp October weather is making for a slow harvest in Iowa this year.

     As of October 5, the statewide harvest of beans was 9 percent complete, with corn only 5 percent complete.

     “It’s going pretty slow,” said AgVantage crop specialist Tanner Bohman.

     Wet weather has delayed the harvest as farmers wait for the ideal amount of moisture in their crops.

     “With beans you have to be very timely,” said Bohman. “You want to combine beans between eleven and thirteen percent moisture.”
