The season for the West Fork Warhawks volleyball team begins on Aug. 29. at 7 p.m. at home vs Hampton-Dumont-CAL. Last year the Warhawks finished 6-22 on the year and this season there will be a lot of new faces as the Warhawks lost eight seniors to graduation. Head coach Emily Greimann said that one goal for the team this year is to be able to compete with some of the teams at the top of the conference. “We have a really good, competitive conference so we want to be up there with the big dogs and be able to show what we are made of,” Greimann said. “I want the girls to play with grit and play with energy and be able to cover the floor and work together to get the result we are looking for.” One thing that the Warhawks can take away from last season to be more competitive this year is that according to Greimann is that the team was starting to see what they were capable of doing. With so many seniors graduating, Greimann said that has opened up competition for the now open spots. “We have had a lot of girls put in some extra work in the offseason too and I think they have that drive and I think that carried over from last year,” Greimann said. Greimann said that the Warhawks have had a high intensity at practices so far as they work on dealing with the loss of so many seniors. “We have a talented group of girls here that work hard and want to play well and want to play hard,” Greimann said. “Going into it with so many empty spots from last year, they have just kind of naturally stepped up and we have seen in the last couple days of practice that the intensity is so much higher. Because they just want it that much. Although we did lose quite a bit I feel like they have taken that and owned it and that helps them take it to the next step and it is going to make it hard to figure out who hits where because there are so many girls working hard but that is a good problem to have.” The team’s ability to move throughout the court is one of the strengths for the Warhawks this upcoming season. “They do such a good job of just going all out no matter what,” Greimann said. “That is one of our strengths is that we have a group that just doesn’t quit and that is so fun to have. I think another strength is our morale and how they work together. They are just a group that loves to play the game and loves to be together and so they stay pretty positive too. During the early part of the season, one thing that Greimann said she would like to see from the Warhawks is them competing throughout the game no matter the outcome. Greimann said she wants to see the girls compete for every point. As the season moves along, Greimann said that once they reach the midway point and even later into the season that she would like to see the Warhawks win games that the team might not have though they could have won before. “So games with those top of the conference teams, I just hope that when we are halfway through the season that we are sitting really well in the conference and these girls do work really hard and I hope they have the hunger for that,” Greimann said. “Because it is possible and they have it in them to do that.”
