West Fork opens with win over Lions

SHEFFIELD – A trio in double-digit scoring for West Fork helped the Warhawks to a 76-70 opening win over Clear Lake on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Jakob Washington led West Fork with 21 points, on 8-of-12 shooting from the field, including 2-of-2 from beyond the three-point line as coach Frank Schnoes’ team started 1-0.

Kayden Ames came off the bench to finish with 17 points and Brayden Vold added 14 more as West Fork overcame a 32-28 halftime deficit with a strong third quarter.

Washington tallied a double-double, hauling down 14 rebounds and dished out five assists for the Warhawks. Brett Weaver finished with a team-high six assists and Ian Latham tallied the team’s only steal against the Lions.

Despite foul trouble (22), the Warhawks managed to keep everyone on the floor in the final minutes of what was close all the way down the stretch. Both teams had five total players finish with four fouls.

Clear Lake’s Jaylen DeVries also finished with a double-double, leading all scorers with 24 points, including 16-of-17 from the free throw line along with 17 rebounds.
