Weaver's personal-best leads West Fork at State Track Meet

Breannah St. Germain clears the high jump bar during the State Track and Field Meet Friday.
DES MOINES – Leah Weaver ran a personal-best 1 minute, 8.61 seconds on her way to ninth place in the 400-meter hurdles, leading the West Fork track and field teams at the State Meet last week at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
The Warhawks competed in six events at the meet, five on the girls' side and one on the boys. Weaver's finish was the best of the meet for the team and one of two that finished inside the top 10.
West Fork's other top 10 came in the high jump, where freshman Breannah St. Germain finished 10th. Germain cleared her first attempt at 4-foot-10 but missed on her first try at five feet before clearing the second. She missed on all three attempts at 5-foot-2, which would have been a personal-best.
Breckyn Dickman placed 17th in the shot put for the Warhawk girls while Weaver, Maddy Welbes, Ellie Weaver and JoAnna Wallce were 19th in the 4 x 400-meter relay preliminary heats and L. Weaver, Abby Schoning, Keara Wood and Welbes were 20th in the shuttle hurdle relay preliminaries.
Josiah Chibambo was the lone Warhawk boys' competitor at the state meet, placing 18th in the shot put. Chibambo fouled on his first attempt but hit the second. He also fouled on his third try.
