The cold and wet weather has set in on Iowa and caused the postponement of some highly anticipated soccer matches. The H-D-CAL boys’ soccer team looked to bounce back with a couple of conference matches against Clear Lake and Humboldt, but mother nature prevented that from happening by bringing cold, wet and windy conditions. An idle week did not hurt the Bulldogs in the rankings, as they continue to climb to eighth place. With three teams inside the top 10 in rankings, the boys North Central Conference soccer title tussle should make for exciting watching for the rest of the season.

The boys have a busy week ahead of them with three matches starting Monday when they head over to Belmond to face Wright County. Thursday they are scheduled to host the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets for senior night and Friday they head down to Ballard to face the Bombers. Senior Captain Alexis Hernandez currently leads the team with four goals and four assists, with Anthony Karanu and Bryan Vazquez tied for second with three goals each. Goalkeeper Jose Aragon has 36 saves on the season, while only giving up five goals, making his save percentage 87.8 percent. The Bulldog team remains 4-1 on the season.

The H-D-CAL girls played a soccer game on Monday against the Aplington-Parkersburg Falcons. The Falcons jumped out to an early lead and headed into halftime ahead 3-0. They would add five more goals in the second half and claim an 8-0 victory over the Bulldogs. The girls had the same two games postponed as the boys. The girls return to the field with a match against Wright County Monday in Belmond and then face a rivalry game with Iowa Falls-Alden on Thursday for senior night. Teaghan Bird leads the Bulldogs with two goals on the season. The Bulldogs record sits at 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
