SHEFFIELD – Osage hung with the seventh-ranked West Fork boys’ basketball team early, but succumbed to the Warhawks’ pressure as the home team ran out to a 77-44 win over the Green Devils on Monday, Jan. 4.
Coach Frank Schnoes’ team held a slim 14-12 lead after the first quarter and took a 30-22 advantage into halftime before pulling away in the second half.
With the game well in hand, West Fork outscored the visitors, 27-8, in the final eight minutes.
It was the first game in more than two weeks for the Warhawks after having to quarantine. They improved to 4-0 overall, 4-0 in the Top of Iowa Conference.
West Fork had to wait a few more days to play again since its regularly-scheduled TIC game at North Butler was postponed due to the fact the Bearcats had to quarantine because of COVID-19 exposure.
During the course of the win over the Green Devils, the Warhawks had four players finish in double-digit scoring, led by Jakob Washington’s 17 points. Cail Weaver added 16 and Kayden Ames tallied 15. Joe Ingham came off the bench to score 14 points, most of which came in the second half.
Ren Heimer led West Fork with nine assists and Weaver tallied a team-high four steals. The Warhawks out-rebounded the Green Devils 29-19, getting five boards apiece from Ames and Washington.
