Warhawks rally past Clarksville

SHEFFIELD – The West Fork High School baseball team ralled from a four-run deficit to edge Clarksville 7-6 Thursday in non-conference play.

The Warhawks (2-9 overall, 1-6 Top of Iowa Conference East Division) also fell to Osage, North Butler and Nashua-Plainfield in conference play during a busy week.

Osage 4, West Fork 2

The Warhawks had just three hits in the loss to Osage, all of which were singles. Edison Maske and Nolan Shreckengost drove home runs while starting pitcher Ashyr Wiseman struck out three.

North Butler 2, West Fork 1

The Warhawks took a 1-0 lead after one inning and held that advantage until North Butler tied the game in the sixth inning and won with a run in the eighth. The Warhawks had three hits – singles by Brett Behr, Trevor Despenas and Maske. Casyn Gurerrero was the hard-luck loser on the mound, throwing all eight innings and strucking out five while scattering five hits.

West Fork 7, Clarksville 6

West Fork jumped ahead of Clarksville with a first-inning run before the Indians came back with two in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth innings. The Warhawks put one on the board in the fifth and five in the sixth to take a 7-4 lead and then had to hold off a Clarksville seventh-inning rally.

Wiseman and Maske had two hits each with one of Maske's a double. Wyatt Bonneman also had a hit for the winners. Despenas picked up the win on the mound, striking out five in three and two-thirds innings of work. Zander Hansen started on the mound and struck out three in three and one-third innings.

Nashua-Plainfield 17,

West Fork 0

Maske had a double and Guerrero a single as the Warhawks fell to Nashua-Plainfield Friday. The Huskies led 7-0 after two innings and added seven in the third before putting the game away in the fifth.

This week

The Warhawks host Rockford Wednesday and play at Northwood-Kensett Friday.
