Warhawk Girls Basketball
The No. 5 ranked West Fork girls’ basketball team punched its ticket to the State Tournament last week with a 56-37 victory over Maquoketa Valley in the Class 1A, Region 6 Championship.
Leaders against Maquoketa Valley were Karma McMorris with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting, Rylie Akins with 11 points, including 3-of-3 from 3-point range, three rebounds and two steals, Emma Martinek with nine points, nine rebounds and three assists and Ellie Weaver with nine points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals.
"We had some foul trouble in the first half which prevented us from stretching our lead at half,” Coach Rodney Huber said. “Maquoketa Valley was able to make a few shots late in the second quarter to keep it a six-point game at halftime. However, in the third quarter we were fresh and were able to go on a 18-4 run to bust the game open. Our full court pressure really wore them down, and our girls really took them out of their patient half court offense forcing 26 turnovers. We are beyond excited to accomplish one of the goals we set at the beginning of the season.”
The Warhawks (24-0) play No. 4 Remsen St. Mary’s Wednesday in the Class 1A state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
With this win the girls improved their record to 24-0 and are in action at the state tournament next Wednesday at 3:15 in Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena to take on #4 Remsen St. Mary's,
