A time for thanks

Editoral: Tomorrow, we celebrate togetherness. Thanksgiving nowadays is seen as a speed bump of sorts heading into the Christmas season. The leftovers have barely gotten a chance to cool in the refrigerator before the focus turns to Christmas shopping, if we’ve even waited that long before looking for gifts to put under the tree.
The excitement of Christmas and the holiday season is understandable, as it takes hours of preparation and planning to execute. But we shouldn’t overlook Thanksgiving as a holiday.
Thanksgiving is a stripped down holiday of sorts. Take away the piles of food and Thanksgiving, at its core, is simply chance to celebrate what we have in our lives.
During Thanksgiving festivities, we spend time with our loved ones and reflect on what we’ve been given during the year and throughout our lives. It’s easy to get caught up in life and forget to consider the fact that you likely have what you need. All of us are guilty of that from time to time but while you’re sitting around the table or television or even in line waiting for the stores to open, take a moment to look around and smile and appreciate the fact that you are able to be where you are at that moment.
Once Thanksgiving is over and you’ve turned your sights to Christmas, also remember to shop local. Our stores, organizations and the Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to ensure that the holidays are well celebrated in Hampton. Pop in the stores, catch a movie at the Windsor but most importantly, continue that feeling of thankfulness and gratitude fostered by Thanksgiving and spend time with one another.
From the Hampton Chronicle and Mid-America Publishing, we wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.
