DES MOINES -- Each year Hampton-Dumont's Patty Teggatz has run the 3,000 at the state track and field meet, she's moved up the rung in her placing.
Her final run on Thursday, May 17, she placed 12th, her best finish among them.
"This year ranked definitely ranked at the top of my list," said Teggatz, a four-time state track qualifier. "Even though it was a lot harder than I remember from other years but each year from my freshman year my place has gone down so I ended up getting 12th, so I’m decently happy with that."
It wasn't her fastest time among her runs on the blue oval, at 11 minutes, 32.18 seconds, however, Teggatz was okay with that.
"My time, I mean, wasn’t really what I was hoping for or really expecting," Teggatz said, "but I always give it my all and I always push through the pain so that’s what I do."
It was a blazing hot day for running a 3,000, but that isn't anything new for Teggatz in her experience.
"My freshman year we ran in comparably hot race as today but earlier in the track season we were canceling meets because of the cold and now it’s above-normal temperatures," Teggatz said, "so definitely an adjustment myself and the (other) girls had to come to."
Teggatz has two more races to complete her career on Saturday.
"I have Friday off and Saturday," Teggatz said, "I come back for the 800 in the morning and 1,500 in the late afternoon."
