HAMPTON – A year removed from running middle school meets, Hampton-Dumont freshman Patty Teggatz maneuvered her way through the varsity course at Maynes Grove with ease.

She was challenged near the end by Aplington-Parkersburg junior Hannah Coates, but was able to beat her to the line to earn her first medal in her first varsity race in a meet hosted by Iowa Falls-Alden.

“It definitely was (an eye-opener),” Teggatz said. “I have run all summer so it is nice to see where I place with other girls in my district and it was very exciting and I’m very much looking forward to this coming year.”

Part of her regimen this summer was running the stairs in the football stands at Hampton-Dumont High School with her older brother, Allen.
