Tauke reflects on 40 years in priesthood

Father Mike Tauke has never been a fan of stereotypes.

     “Television and movies – it’s the same every time. We’re always in this black outfit, we’re usually standing in front of a statue of Mary, and it’s void of light,” he said as he sat in his sun-filled office at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. “And I blow that stereotype right out of the water.”

     Indeed it would appear he does. On this particular day, the Hampton priest was wearing blue jeans, a canary-colored polo shirt and dress shoes. There were no black robes, no white collars, and no other pieces of ceremonial Catholic clothing in sight.

     But that’s just Father Mike.
