For the time being, swimming is not recommended at Beeds Lake.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ latest beach monitoring sample showed the lake contains higher than normal levels of E. coli bacteria. The DNR’s website said the water was last sampled on July 18. As of Monday, the map still listed Beeds Lake as “swimming not recommended.” Scott Doescher, park ranger at Beeds Lake, said a sign with the warning has been posted at the beach.
Information provided by the DNR said the indicator bacteria itself will not make someone sick, but the levels of the bacteria indicate that pathogens or disease-causing microorganisms may be present.
