A Sukup Manufacturing employee has joined a group of elite young professionals – forty of them to be exact.
Emily Schmitt, general council for Sukup, was named to the Des Moines Business Record Forty under 40 list, which acknowledges business leaders in the state under the age of 40 who have “demonstrated impressive career achievements and unparalleled community involvement.”
Nominated by Suku Radia, former CEO of Bankers Trust, Schmitt said she was humbled to even be in the conversation for the distinction, let alone be named to the list.
“He was someone I admire and someone that I see as a mentor,” she said. “That was very humbling to hear that he nominated me.”
Schmitt, a Sheffield native, came to Sukup in 2011 as corporate council before becoming general council in 2016. She said although the award was an individual honor, it couldn’t have been possible without her coworkers and the community.
