City's Doggy swim an unexpected success

There was splishing and splashing, wet tails a wagging and laughs all around as dozens of people and 25 dogs enjoyed the cool waters of the Hampton Aquatic Center during the city's first Doggy Swim, held on Sept. 2.

"It's been better than I expected," said Bill Ries of Hampton. "With so many dogs and all the people, I wasn't sure. But it's been fun."

Ries was at the event with his Czech Sheperd, Anaika, and his two sons – Carson and Thomas. He said the event was a fun way for families to enjoy the pool with their dogs.

Dozens of other dog owners played with their pooches in the pool, tossing toys, playing fetch and enjoying the last night of the pool's summer season.

City Public Works Director Doug Tarr said the event was a success and he anticipates it growing in the next few years.
