New plan aims to cut Homecoming vandalism in Hampton

Local officials are hoping a revamped schedule and strict penalty enforcement will reduce problematic vandalism this fall during Hampton-Dumont’s Homecoming week.
H-D High School Principal Steve Madson and teacher Heath Walton introduced the plan Aug. 27 during the Hampton City Council meeting. Traditional Homecoming events like the mens’ volleyball match and powder puff football game would be moved to later in the week under the proposal, and additional things like a Harlem Ambassadors basketball game and community tailgate are also being planned.
The altered schedule comes in response to events last fall that led school administrators and city officials to brainstorm solutions to curb future incidents.
