A house fire in Sheffield resulted in the death of an elderly resident this past weekend.
Around 10 p.m. on the night of July 17, the Sheffield fire department received a call about a house fire at 22 Southview Circle in Sheffield.
Sheffield resident Dee Birdsall was in the house at the time of the fire and has died.
“When we got here there were flames shooting out and it had vented out the west side [of the house],” said Sheffield Fire Chief Dan Fields.
Crews worked throughout the night to combat the blaze, and were still there late into Monday morning combating hot spots still inside the house.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but State Fire Marshal Mark Sands completed his investigation of the fire on Monday morning and will release his findings once the autopsy is performed and the results released.

Correction:

A previous version of this story incorrectly named the deceased Bea Birdsall while her first name is actually Dee. We apologize for this mistake and always strive for accuracy.
