Root retires from Franklin County Sheriff’s Office

Long-time Deputy Leon Root has decided to hang up his holster after 23 years of service to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

     A retirement celebration was held in his honor at the Franklin County Law Enforcement Center last Thursday with many friends, coworkers and family members in attendance. During his career, Root worked his way up through the ranks after starting as a part-time officer and courtroom attendant. He earned a promotion to full-time deputy in September of 1991 and remained there ever since.

     “Law enforcement is something I always wanted to do,” he said.
