Michael Lynn Rodemeyer Sr., 71, of Hampton, has been charged with criminal contempt after violating a no-contact order filed by his wife.
According to Hampton Police Department documents, on June 8, Rodemeyer contacted his wife via Judicial Mental Health Advocate Mary Swartz, by phone. Before this incident, Rodemeyer violated the order two times: making calls from Hardin County Jail on May 6 and on May 20. The no-contact order was initiated on April 20.
On June 9, Rodemeyer also motioned to change his plea of not guilty to four counts of alleged sexual abuse of a minor, to guilty of the charges. A hearing was scheduled to occur on July 11, but Rodemeyer waived the hearing to Aug. 3, where he will have a plea hearing and a review of his charge of criminal contempt.
Rodemeyer is accused of engaging sexually with a minor on several occasions, and is facing two counts of sexual abuse in the second degree from the Hampton Police Department, and one count of sexual abuse in the second degree and one count of sexual abuse in the third degree from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Iowa court documents, Rodemeyer admitted to his family and the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) that he did commit the charges filed by the Hampton Police Department.
The alleged incidents Rodemeyer is being charged with began on or about June 1, 2014, and continued through on or about April 1, 2015, on or about June 1, 2015 and on or about Feb. 1, 2017.
Rodemeyer was arrested on April 20 following a weeklong investigation conducted by the Hampton Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the DHS and the Child Protection Center.
Rodemeyer was initially held at the Hardin County jail on a $200,000 bond. It was later reduced to a $50,000 cash bond in his name. Sexual abuse in the second degree is a Class B felony, while sexual abuse in the third degree is a Class C felony.
